  3. Nancy Bowers says:

    Dear Linda,

David Jindrich — a researcher and writer for Iowa Unsolved Murders: Historic Cases — has investigated your question about Terri Venem and learned the following information:

Terri Venem, age 19, was found beaten and stabbed to death at 426 7th Ave South in Clinton, Iowa, on April 2, 1975, where she shared an apartment with Ramona McGovern and Ramona’s sister, Rebecca “Becky” Darr.

An investigation revealed that Rebecca Darr – who was born August 11, 1958 – killed Terri Venem.

On June 3, 1975, a Grand Jury indicted Rebecca Darr. She was originally charged with First Degree Murder in Juvenile Court and was committed to the Independence Mental Health Institute. On November 27, 1975, she plead guilty to Second Degree Murder in Adult Court and accepted a 30 year prison term. She was released to parole and discharged from prison on November 18, 1983, after serving less than 8 years of a 30-year sentence.

This link will take you to a Find A Grave memorial created by David and Pam Jindrich and a photo of Terri’s stone. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=venem&GSfn=t&GSbyrel=all&GSdy=1975&GSdyrel=in&GSst=14&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=107469686&df=all&

    Hope this helps.

    All best,
